About me:
The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web

The Enigma of Colour
Emilia Fernandes, was born in Portugal, and migrated to Australia in 1987, showing artistic talent at an early age. Skilled in the textiles industry, she ran her own clothing design business in Portugal and also worked in Australia as a Manager and Consultant in the Fashion Industry.
My desire for painting is difficult to put into words. I believe that everything in life happens for a reason. I myself cannot understand the things that have occurred in my life, some of which I do not want, but have to accept as part of being human.
Art plays a huge part in my life. I am never bored, my mind never rests as it is always thinking of new things to do. I am constantly experimenting with new ideas that make me happy. A lot of the time there is that fear of failure, because what I have to say will inevitably hurt someone, or it is not proper within society. That is why in my paintings I, the Artist, can explain the reason or motive behind the colours and drawings, regardless of subject, as it has a great significance to the painter. Only the artist can explain their motive, and a lot of the time it is hard for the artist to convey a completely individual sentiment. Every one except the artist reads what is inside their hearts and souls. To paint only to serve society is a spiritual dilemma; every artist should paint for themselves regardless of the conventions that may be dictated to them. Every artist should have their own success, if only to fulfil their own creativity.
My paintings are visual journal entries of thoughts and experiences of everyday life.
The majority of my paintings are not planned, it is just a matter of persisting until something of interest tranquillises my spirit. Underneath the beauty of a simple common flower, lies its will to live. And it is a cycle of life, change and rebirth.
Consider this: we are all the same! The flowers are so close to my hand, my mind, and my eyes and I can include them in my dream which becomes a reality. Does not life and fate somehow always call us to the impossible by finding blessings and losses, for better in the long run? This opens up the possibility for lived experiences to be both creative and transforming. Like all of this, we do have the possibility to transform what has been created by the Creator! There is no doubt that beautiful surroundings provide us with a favourite environment that helps us thrive. Flowers are an elementary and affordable way to add a splash of colour and emotion into my life.
Also, I appreciate drawings from children, who are free from restrictions, which to me is what creativity is all about. I believe in living life to our fullest passion. I consider myself a positive person, open minded, I am a free spirit in every sense of the word. In my paintings I like to think too about my friends thinking of the flowers we used to pick from the fields, the colour of the dresses we would wear, the flowers we used to put in our hair, all of this has a big influence in my work too.
When I prepare to go to the studio to paint, I invite myself to another world where I can close off all of the pain, and live only for my emotions surrounded by paints, brushes, pictures, music and books.
My philosophy is this: I see art with my eyes approach, I feel it with my heart and I paint it with my soul. I choose this most simple ways to use my art to portray the strength and care of the soul of woman. My career as an Artist has been steadily growing with exhibitions, by renting space for my paintings to sell to an audience. I am a delicate artist who creates peace and harmony in my pictures. When I paint I tap into the eternal feminine spirit – with flowers being the expression of principle from the emotions of everyday living -and I blend this with a sort of modern, hip Euro-sensibility that gives my paintings a very distinctive flair. My paintings are phenomenally beautiful and they have strong colours in acrylics or oils. I paint with positive paintbrush strokes with the strength of the spirit, as well with the world of soul.
