About me:
I have been doing art in some form all my life. I grew up in an area that is mostly southwestern and landscape art oriented. It was not easy since I had a preferance for the human figure and noteably the nudes. My attempts at landscapes bordered on surreal and fantasy which seemed to futher unnerve certain establishments. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fort Lewis Liberal Arts College in 1994. I designed pullout covers for the local newspaper and worked for a print shop running presses and designing brochures untill entering the electrical utility trade. I trained in Taekwondo and Koryo Gumdo the majority of the time and even instructed for several years. Approximatly two years ago I stepped out of that ring to consentrate on my art work and family. As an artist I admit to floating between worlds of reality and perception, peering into many concepts but seldom at home in any. My art work is therefore a scattered and biased report of these journeys. Not the world as it is or as it should be, rather possibilities of what may be. I do not ask viewers to accept theses depictions as true or even desireable. Sufficient would be the viewer turning an eye inward to the parts of themselves repesented in the artwork. Here they may scrutinize whats been neglected, never unlocked, over embelished, or conventionalized. Wheather they find jewels to cherish or masks to discard, I am unqualified to judge. I can ask that reguardless of what's discovered and wheather or not we can love it, that we come to terms with it, and endevour to acknowledge its right to exist. I draw primarily in Bic ballpoint pen due to 1. the fact they are so highly available 2. the black in dries quickly and I don't have to worry about smearing it. 3. it forces me to stay with a dropped line and work with it as much as possible. If you can't hide it, accent it. 4. it is not stable and will fade and sink into the paper over time. It becomes a great reminder of how short life can be even if its cared for. 5. I love the texture of broken line that the ink has from sitting on the top fibers of the paper. This is only viewable at great magnification.
