I am a Cuban American who was born in New York City, April 14th 1965. When I was eight years old, I came to live in South Florida.
I've been a web designer since 1998. As the senior designer for a technology company, I've been immersed in the web culture for years, following art and design trends that borrow from many different cultures.
I'm a self taught painter and decided this year (2008) that I would grow up and become an artist. In March, I decided to work on a series of paintings entitled 'Springtime'. The artwork is inspired by western and eastern influences. Excited by the work of young new artists like Amy Sol and Daniel Lim, I've tried to sythesize the spiritual other-worldly quality of William Blake, the 19th century painter and poet with the childlike genius of Hayao Miyazaki and Anime (Japanese Animation) and Manga (Japanese comics). An anime inspired theme that runs through my current series is love and the passing of time which is represented by the use of flower petals in the wind. There is also an element of Art Nouveau inspiring in my current work. I have been time lapse video taping some of my paintings and featuring them on YouTube.
I believe that creative expression is quite mysterious and has something to do with the artist leaving something very personal of themselves for others to brail. The work of art is something that cannot be expressed in words and is sort of a visual poetry. Beauty inspires and the artist must express his love.
