"Art has always been a primary means of self-expression for me. Therefore, I create art because I have a need to express on a continual basis. The figures I paint and sculpt are reflections of myself, portraits of people I know, or just nameless faces set in a landscape of ephemeral and decaying beauty. My work is a fusion of personal experiences and influences – moody atmospheres and timeless elements all laced with clandestine symbolism. Much of my imagery is spurred by subconscious and collective memories, resurrected by cloud reading imagery out of amorphous wash applications, the sheer grain of wood grain, and also through an underlying process of subliminal, nearly automatic drawing. The fine detail that results punctuates my desire to explore and consider the content of my dreamlike, surreal and symbolist images in a contemporary light." |
